Introduction

Apple's iPad Mini receives a significant refresh with a larger OLED display, thinner bezels, and new AI-powered features, arriving ahead of Apples next major event.

What Happened

Apple announced the new iPad Mini with an 8.5-inch OLED panel, replacing the previous 8.3-inch LCD. The device measures 5.4mm thick with 24% slimmer bezels, peaks at 1200 nits brightness, and introduces the A20 Pro chip capable of running on-device AI models. A repositioned 12MP front-facing camera now sits on the long edge, enabling easier video calls in landscape orientation. The tablet also carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, and comes in midnight, starlight, and optional nano-texture display variants.

Why This Matters

The OLED upgrade represents Apple's first OLED panel in the iPad Mini, offering better contrast and power efficiency over the prior LCD. The A20 Pro chip and on-device AI enable new Siri customization options, while the repositioned camera addresses long-standing user feedback for landscape video calls. These enhancements position the Mini as a more capable compact tablet for both productivity and media consumption.
