Introduction

The romantic comedy Wicker, starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, is gaining attention for its unconventional premise. A single-night 4DX screening on October 28 promises to add a physical dimension to the film’s already unusual premise.

What Happened

Black Bear announced that Wicker will receive a one-night-only 4DX showing on October 28, following significant fan response to the film’s trailer. The studio noted that the idea gained traction after the 4DX TikTok account posted about it in August, turning online speculation into a confirmed theater event.

Why This Matters

4DX synchronizes moving seats with onscreen action and supplements the view with vibration, wind, water, scents, and light effects. For a romantic comedy centered on a handcrafted wicker husband, the technology raises questions about how environmental shifts will enhance—or complicate—the film’s humor and world-building. Directors Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer both emphasized that the effects amplify the comedy’s timing and situate viewers in the film’s strange village setting.

Key Takeaways

  • The 4DX screening of Wicker occurs on October 28, five days after the film’s general theatrical release on October 23.
  • Black Bear’s decision followed mass fan requests prompted by the film’s trailer and social media buzz.
  • Director statements indicate that 4DX enhances comedic timing and immerses audiences in the film’s eccentric village world.
  • The film’s premise—an ostracized fisherwoman commissioning a basket-made husband, played by Skarsgård, blends romance with absurdist humor.
  • 4DX has become increasingly common for event screenings, with recent popular runs including Twisters, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Conclusion

Whether you’re drawn to the unusual central romance or curious about how motion seats and environmental effects reshape a comedy, the one-night 4DX offering provides a novel way to experience Wicker. Fans looking for a memorable night at the movies may find the extra sensory layer worth the ticket.
